Welcome to the Department of Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering of Thapar University! Ours is one of the oldest departments in the university.

Welcome to the Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering Department at Thapar University. It gives me immense pride and pleasure to introduce the Department.

The Electrical Engineering Department is one of the oldest departments (established in 1956). At present there are about 1000 students enrolled in various academic programs (UG, PG & Ph.D).

Our undergraduate program has always been known to be one of the best engineering undergraduate programs of the country. The department offers two Bachelor's courses: Electrical Engineering, Electronics (Instrumentation & Control) and three Master's courses: Power System, Power Electronics and Drives, Electronic Instrumentation & Control, respectively, as well as PhD educations in the same areas.

Among the multiple areas of research faculty members are working in the field of Biomedical Instrumentation, Environment Monitoring, Instrumentation, Sensors & Transducers, Rehabilitation devices and sports cognition, Electric Power Distribution Systems, Power Systems, Power System Optimisation, Pattern Recognition, Speaker Recognition, Machine Learning and in Smart Grid.

Our vision is to be a leading establishment excelling in higher education and research in the field of Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering to meet the aspirations of global community. We provide a very informal atmosphere between faculty and students. Faculty members of our department are engaged in teaching as well as in research.

I appreciate your concern in our department and would encourage you to stay in touch with us if you have any questions or suggestions.
